A look at the medicinal plants that share my garden space...
There is something deeply satisfying about growing your own medicine. To walk out your door and harvest what you need for a tea, a poultice, or a tincture - this is the heart of the wise woman tradition.
My garden is modest but mighty. Each plant was chosen with intention, and together they form a living apothecary.
The Residents
Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) - The dreaming herb, ally to women since ancient times.
Lavender (Lavandula) - For calm and peace, and to scent everything.
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) - For remembrance and circulation.
Sage (Salvia officinalis) - The wise one, for sore throats and cleansing.
Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) - Tiny but powerful, for coughs and courage.
Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) - Sweet and uplifting, for frayed nerves.
Peppermint (Mentha piperita) - Cool and refreshing, for digestion and headaches.
Calendula (Calendula officinalis) - Sunny and healing, for skin and lymph.
Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) - The bone-knitter, for wounds and bruises.
Each day I greet them, tend them, and learn from them. They teach patience, observation, and the rhythm of the seasons.
A garden is never finished - it is always becoming. And so am I.
